summer bucket list: tie dying shirts

This year, at school, Lily tie dyed shirts for their field day. She loved it, told the other kids about it, and they wanted to try it again over the summer.  Well sadly, our summer is almost over! I ordered a kit on amazon, grabbed everyone a white shirt at Walmart and today we tie dyed shirts.
We did it on a weekend  while Jake was home, to join in on the fun and have an extra set of hands. Speaking of hands, all 12 of our hands were busy tying and dying so I don't have any pictures of the process, but I do have pictures of the finished product.

Parkwood Estates

Here is Jake's recent project for/with our community.
Over a year ago, a car hit the Parkwood Estates sign at the entrance to our neighborhood.  No one knew who hit it and it was left there, untouched, for a long time.  The hurricane happened and people were busy with bigger, more pressing, projects. Fast forward to this past May, our community had a meeting one Saturday to talk about different needs in our community.  The sign was on the top of that list. We needed to remove the old sign, take care of some fallen trees and landscaping and then tackle a new sign.  Jake stepped up and said he could build a new sign.  Our neighbors agreed that they would help raise funds and gave some insight on the new sign. Jake took over from there and here is what he came up with:

Jake and a handful of neighbors installed the sign on Saturday afternoon. It looks beautiful! The community has been very pleased with the final result.

Scripture Art

A sweet friend of ours recently gave us this coloring book.

I am loving coloring scripture to hang around the house, gift to friends, and the girls have each put one in their folders for school. We can always improve at scripture memory and hiding God's Words in our hearts.

eleven years

Thursday Jake brought home a big bouquet of flowers that was very similar to my wedding bouquet. So sweet.

Friday afternoon we had a sitter come watch the kids overnight. We enjoyed a night away in downtown Wilmington. We enjoyed an amazing dinner at Savorez. Lots of walking downtown. We saw the sunset up on the rooftop at Cloud 9. Late night ice cream and more walking. We stayed at Embassy Suites right on the river.

We are so thankful for the last eleven years.  Excited for many more together!

Summer Vacation to MN + WI

We just got home from a packed week in MN/WI. Our time went quickly, but we made lots of memories and enjoyed our time all together.

4 generations after brunch at Chris & Lindsay's on Thursday morning
All 5 siblings made it home to Spooner, WI
(We're missing a few cousins and spouses in this photo)
We were in Spooner Friday to Sunday.

Making cookie bars with Grandma T

Reading Anna Hibiscus with Grandma T

Making fresh squeezed lemonade with Grandma T

The boy cousins playing fireman with the hose, the trike and the tractor. They played with Grandpa's tractor (mower) for an hour at least!

Fun memories not photographed: many family meals, two sleepovers with Margot, a pool party + cookout with everyone on Thursday evening, a road trip with Auntie Bekah, cousins sleeping in the camper in WI, Jake's siblings painting bedrooms for Dad & Mom F, meeting the Otto's at the park, a combined dinner at Eric and Jen's on Monday evening, etc...

Jack & the Beanstalk

Lily & Ella just finished up a week of music theatre camp at Brooklyn Arts Music Academy.  They learned a lot and had a blast all week. The camp was Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm.  The girls joined the camp on Tuesday. They memorized lines and practiced all week for their Friday night performance of Jack & the Beanstalk.

Practice, practice, practice...

Lily was the "Old Lady" (wife to the giant)

Final Friday morning practice on stage
Ella was Flossie, a narrator

Friday Night Performance

They did AWESOME! It was amazing what all these kids learned in just one short week: songs, choreography, speaking lines, acting, etc...

Miss Linda with the girls afterwards.

A celebratory sweet treat!

Father's Day REDO 2019

Today, one week later, we did our Father's Day REDO 2019.

Last Sunday we had this cutie with us for the weekend.  We got up, had breakfast together as a family and Jake opened his Father's Day gifts.  We all got ready for church and headed to the 9am gathering. Unfortunately, the stomach bug hit us, rather suddenly, while at the gathering. I (Meg) went out to the van to sit until church was over.  We went straight home after church and then the throwing up began.  I was out for the afternoon.  I felt terrible that I was so sick on Father's Day, but Jake willingly and happily took over everything with all 5 kids.  Later in the afternoon Lily started feeling sick too.  Thankfully it was an under 12 hour sort of stomach bug.  Jake's stomach was upset on Monday. So for all these stated reasons, we did a Father's Day REDO today!

Here are the TWO pictures we took on actual Father's Day.
