Jack & the Beanstalk

Lily & Ella just finished up a week of music theatre camp at Brooklyn Arts Music Academy.  They learned a lot and had a blast all week. The camp was Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm.  The girls joined the camp on Tuesday. They memorized lines and practiced all week for their Friday night performance of Jack & the Beanstalk.

Practice, practice, practice...

Lily was the "Old Lady" (wife to the giant)

Final Friday morning practice on stage
Ella was Flossie, a narrator

Friday Night Performance

They did AWESOME! It was amazing what all these kids learned in just one short week: songs, choreography, speaking lines, acting, etc...

Miss Linda with the girls afterwards.

A celebratory sweet treat!

Father's Day REDO 2019

Today, one week later, we did our Father's Day REDO 2019.

Last Sunday we had this cutie with us for the weekend.  We got up, had breakfast together as a family and Jake opened his Father's Day gifts.  We all got ready for church and headed to the 9am gathering. Unfortunately, the stomach bug hit us, rather suddenly, while at the gathering. I (Meg) went out to the van to sit until church was over.  We went straight home after church and then the throwing up began.  I was out for the afternoon.  I felt terrible that I was so sick on Father's Day, but Jake willingly and happily took over everything with all 5 kids.  Later in the afternoon Lily started feeling sick too.  Thankfully it was an under 12 hour sort of stomach bug.  Jake's stomach was upset on Monday. So for all these stated reasons, we did a Father's Day REDO today!

Here are the TWO pictures we took on actual Father's Day.

A Morning at the Farm

We had such a fun time this morning at McNally's Farm. We have been here 3-4 times before and have LOVED it every time. The kids enjoy helping feed all the animals, seeing all the animals and learning so much from Mrs. McNally.

Picking blueberries

Gathering quail eggs

Mrs. McNally generously gave us a lot of farm goodies to take home.  We enjoyed a yummy breakfast for supper: fried quail eggs, sausage and blueberry coffee cake.

Lily turns NINE

Today we celebrated LILY turning NINE!
We had waffle iron french toast for breakfast. Lily's pick and a family favorite!

We opened gifts and then headed to the library. This girl LOVES books and reading. It wasn't always this way. She has grown a lot this year in third grade and her reading has improved immensely. We are so proud of her and all of her hard work.

Before dinner we went and played at "the secret park." Lily picked Panera Bread for dinner.  She loves their tomato soup and bread. Oh, and the butter.  ALL the bread and butter.

Homemade chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches for the birthday dessert.

Happy NINTH Birthday, LILY!

Touch Tank Tuesday

One of our weekly summer favorite's is Touch Tank Tuesday down at the NC Coastal Federation at Wrightsville Beach.  Each Monday, volunteers and employees go out into the WB waters and find different species.  They set up the aquariums and touch tank, then they open it Tuesday's from 10am-1pm for viewing.  It is different every week and the kids love it.

Touching the sea spiders, sea squirts, and blue crab.

Last day of School

It seems like no coincidence that the last day of school, June 7, was also National Donut Day.  The kids were all up extremely early, so we got in the car (in our jammies) and headed to Duck Donuts for our free donut.

Ella turns SEVEN

Today, Ella turned SEVEN
We stared off with a breakfast birthday party.  Ella requested cinnamon rolls.

May birthday celebrations at school.
There were 3 other classmates with a May birthday.

After school, we went to the downtown library and picked out some new books.  Ella asked for her birthday dinner at Island's followed by going to the Downtown Sundown Concert.  Afterwards we headed home for birthday cake.  Ella's chocolate cake creation: bottom layer was Ella's cake recipe, then a layer of chocolate ice cream and topped with crushed Oreos.  It was yummy!

Happy 7th Birthday, ELLA!
