a special celebration

Today, our sweet neighbor Mr. George, turned 80! He is such a kind friend and generous neighbor. He came to our house for dinner and to celebrate his birthday. The kids were off of school today, so they helped a lot with all the party preparations.

Ella decorated the path, at the park, to surprise Mr. George when he takes his dog, Misty, for his daily walks at the park. They also decorated our sidewalk and chalkboard with birthday messages.

The kids set the table and set up the decorations.

Ella made the cake and Lily decorated it.

UNO after dinner and before cake & presents.

The finished product.

student led conferences

Friday was the end of the quarter, so the kids had an early dismissal and were off today for teacher conferences.  Typically it is parent teacher conferences, but today was student led conferences.  It was so fun to go in each classroom and for the kids to show me and tell me what all they are learning in school.

I don't have a photo of Lily at school. She wasn't really in to it.

Beach House: how it started and how it's going

It feels like we hit a HUGE milestone this weekend.  There is no more visible house wrap and all the exterior is painted.

Teamwork makes the dream work!

One September evening Jake looked over at me and said. "I think I am not going to cut my hair until the beach house is done." That caught me by surprise but I am holding him to it. The next morning we asked our kids, "What do you think Dad said he is NOT going to do until the beach house is done?" One answered "kiss Mom!" Another said "shave." Then one said "cut his hair."
