more birthdays

We celebrated JAKE's 41st birthday all day today!

Jake's breakfast of choice: homemade cinnamon rolls

After breakfast, the kids headed to school and Jake to work. Jake & I were able to meet up for a sushi lunch date (thanks to Harris Teeter $5 sushi on Friday's!). After school we had Jake open his birthday presents.  We bought him a beach cruiser along with a bike cup holder and some of his favorite candy. I snagged the beach cruiser at ReStore a few weeks ago for only $32! We can not wait for family bike rides at the beach house this summer. We also enjoyed his birthday dessert of carmel apple pie with vanilla bean ice cream. Later that evening we went to a Japanese Steakhouse to celebrate with our neighbor, Mr. George. It was so fun sharing dinner with him and spending time together.

Happy Birthday JAKE, you are THE best!

Before & After: A Room for Growing Girls

This past fall, I mentioned to Lily & Ella, that we could redo their room in the next few months. We originally set up their room back in early 2015. Well, life got busy, and a few big family changes occurred (HERE and HERE). We were in Minnesota for 2 weeks over Christmas. So we're back home and now able to redo their room.

I asked the girls for some ideas. They mainly told me colors they would like. Ella loves yellow. Lily couldn't decide between dark green or teal. I made some selections and set up a little design presentation for them. The presentation included new bedding, accent fabrics, paint colors and new art. I also presented a redesign of their room with the beds LOFTED. They were both excited about that!

We first repainted the walls and then Jake began with the construction of the lofted beds.

One of us went to Lowe's every single day last week. I painted one accent wall underneath their beds for the desk and bookcase area.
I was able to snag 2 desks and 2 bookcases from a friend and her neighbor for $20 total.

Love the hanging lights. It's especially pretty and welcoming at night.

This sweet little couch used to be in our playroom, but our family of 6-7 outgrew it! Now it is perfect for a reading nook in the girls room. We took the legs off so it sits lower to the ground.

There are still a few finishing touches to work out.  I would like to get them both an upholstered stool for their desks.  Right now, everything I am finding is too much money so we will wait for something the right price and the right fit. I am also looking for new room darkening drapes that will match the new color scheme.

Employee of the Year

Today, Jake was awarded "Lean Champion of the Year 2021." This is a new award that the company is giving out to an employee whose work saves the company a lot of time and money. Jake developed a My Employees App for managers to submit their monthly winners through.

We're so proud of him! Friday night there is a big employee of the year dinner that Jake & I get to attend at Port City Chop House.  Since Jake got an EOY award, we are automatically invited to the My Employees Champions Trip in May to Jekyll Island, GA.

39.

We celebrated Meg's 39th birthday today!

We enjoyed breakfast as a family and then headed to church. We made a pit stop at Home Depot, after church, to look at tile options for the beach house. Afterwards, we  enjoyed a delicious brunch at Eternal Sunshine Cafe.

Wren and her Mickey Mouse pancake.

It was a rainy and cold day so after brunch we headed home. We played games, watched a movie, painted the hallway bathroom, read books, finished a few things in the girl's room, and laid around and relaxed. My birthday dessert of choice - frozen banana shakes (our favorite to make at home). It was a great day spent with those I love most!

Our hearts are also sad. It wasn't quite the same birthday without a call from my Dad who would then sing Happy Birthday. My Mom & I share a birthday. She turned 70 this year. Last year, my parents planned a trip. They had planned to be here visiting for a few weeks and we were going to celebrate our birthday's together.
