Halloween 2023

A couple of our kids were up early on Halloween morning.  One sidled up to me in the kitchen, while I was making pumpkin muffins, and said. "Mom, we forgot to carve pumpkins." UGH - all the Mom guilt. This is a tradition and we did forget. I saw pumpkins weeks ago, while I was in Aldi, but here in the south, if you buy a pumpkin too early it may rot in the heat.  You also can't carve a pumpkin too early or else it definitely rots and collapses in the heat. We've learned this from personal experience, and all the bugs that rotting pumpkins attract never mind the smell.

Today I called a few places and stopped at a few places trying to find pumpkins to carve. Most places were sold out of pumpkins big enough to carve. My last ditch effort was a pumpkin "patch." I pulled up. They only had small pumpkins left. The man running the stand said they were sold out, but I could go check their "pumpkin graveyard" and take whatever I wanted.
I grabbed FOUR pumpkins that had a few spots but weren't rotting and we carved pumpkins after school. It was really fun and as always, we roasted the seeds - yum!

Wren, a skeleton

Benny, the Mandalorian

Ella, Jingle bELLS

As we have done for a number of years now, we headed over to the Cook's house for soup and sides. Then when it was dusk, we all walk through their surrounding development and did trick or treat. It is a really fun evening spent with friends!

This knife broke while carving the pumpkin so we left it. Half the mouth carved and half the knife stuck in the pumpkin.

The after party - candy haul!

Fall Break 2023

Since we were back in school E A R L Y (August 7), we got a whole week of fall break and what a fun and full week we had!

MONDAY we all went to the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher. That afternoon Jake flew out to Los Angeles for the Adobe Max Conference.

TUESDAY we worked at home and then met some friends for a picnic and play at Long Leaf Park.

WEDNESDAY we headed out to Surf City to finish up a few things before our friends, from Pennsylvania, arrived. The Hrovath's are back!! The girls have been writing each other and keeping in touch across the miles. We spent a lot of time catching up, playing at the house and the beach, and enjoying meals together.

THURSDAY morning Jake flew back on the red eye from LA. The forecast called for rain all day so the Hrovath's came to ILM for the day. It was another fun day together. The kids played non stop and we adults talked for hours. Morgen, our oldest niece, drove in from Liberty University to spend her fall break with us. She arrived just before dinner. After dinner the 3 littles went to Surf City with Jocelyn & Alan and the older girls stayed here for a sleepover.

FRIDAY the ILM crew drove out to Surf City for a beautiful beach day.

The Hrovath's pulled out around 4pm to drive to Raleigh for a family wedding.

SATURDAY we took Morgen downtown Wilmington to explore. Morgen does a lot of photography and the kids really enjoyed taking pictures too. It rained off and on but it was a really enjoyable day.

The Riverwalk

Late Lunch at Dixie Grill

The rest of Saturday was spent hanging out at home. We played games, the older girls made Pumpkin Bread with Morgen, we watched football and walked to the park.

SUNDAY we went to the 9am Gathering. Played after church and enjoyed lunch together. Morgen then headed back to Liberty. We absolutely loved having her here and we hope she comes again to visit!

An Extra Special Birthday

Remember this Little Bug?

The past two years we have been invited to Lillianne's birthday party.  Today we got to celebrate her 4th birthday with her and her forever family. It's so sweet. So kind of the Lord to have her placed with friends of ours who also love Jesus. We're so thankful for God's sovereign plan for Lillianne.
Lillianne turns FOUR on Monday, October 16.

Superhost!

We got it - Superhost for our Surf City AirBnB.

Even more exciting than the Superhost status is the couple's getaways we are able to do through Restored Souls Foundation. We have/are hosting 9 foster parents this year for a Parents Night Away. The notes left in our guest book have been so encouraging as to how God has orchestrated the perfect timing for each couple to getaway. We hope each couple can use the nights away to unwind, recharge, reset and regroup as a couple. We’re praying that these nights away will allow them to return to their family ready to do the task God has called them to.

UNCW Seahawk Volleyball

I did some research, before the season started, and found out that UNCW Seahawk volleyball games are a non-ticketed event (free). Since the girls made the teams, this is such a great opportunity for them to see a higher level of play. We are loving going to cheer on the Seahawks!

We've caught of free shirt at nearly every game we've attended (3 out of 4 games). One game Lily & Benny were picked to do the halftime game. They each walked away with a McD's fanny packed full of goodies: Seahawk socks, 2 burger coupons, a Grimace tshirt and a straw pen. It's been really fun for all of us! The girls have also invited friends to come to the games with us!

Beach Baptisms

This evening The Bridge Church did Beach Baptisms down at Fort Fisher.

It was a powerful evening with 45 people getting baptized!

Lily & Ella both were baptized!
We are praying that this is an external sign of an internal decision they each have made to follow Jesus.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
